Brussels Airport builds roads according to a circular model

Prioritising reuse in new projects

A number of new roads have been constructed as part of Destination 2040, the airport’s long-term strategic vision. Here, Brussels Airport is bearing the flag of circularity.

During the purchasing phase, contractors were obliged to reuse materials as much as possible. Brussels Airport recorded demolition materials in a demolition monitoring file. The airport then worked with the contractors on examining which materials could be reused and how. This led to a significant decrease in non-renewable virgin input.
