Janssen has been working with De Neef Chemical Processing (DNCP) for a number of years on recycling as many solvents as possible, reducing their negative environmental impact. Since August 2017, two solvents (isopropanol and toluene) needed to synthesise a drug have been reused.
Janssen transports its streams of solvent waste to DNCP in Kallo, where they’re distilled to the desired quality. Following this process, the solvents are returned to Janssen for reuse. Closing this loop is an important step towards the circular economy.
