Port of Antwerp opts for circular printing

Circularity as the face of the company

The Antwerp Port Authority wanted to incorporate circularity in its orders for printed matter, such as business cards and covers.

To achieve this, a number of circular criteria were included in the technical contract documents:

  • presentation of the FSC label and the EU eco-label
  • ISO14001 and ISO9001 certified
  • the printed matter must be made from 100% post-consumer recycled material
  •  raw materials for the printed matter must be collected within a radius of 100 km
  • The production process must be TCF (total chlorine free), ECF (elementary chlorine free) or PCF (process chlorine free).

In the beginning, it proved to be difficult to convince suppliers, but the criteria have since turned out to be realistic and the contract has been concluded. The specifications are also used by Port of Antwerp for all paper and printing procurement. From a minor impact to a major impact thus!
