BLIEBERG A.C.E

Architects of a circular economy

Short description of the offering

Consultancy on circularity, architectural projects, development of new business cases and eco-design. We are engineers, architects and researchers. We help clients in finding circular opportunities. We do this in the design world and in the construction industry, but also in a broader range, from the eco-product-design to urban planning and systems thinking.

Why is it circular?

We believe that circular economy changes the way how we look at materials, at the way we use them, at building systems, at relations between market players.Circularity is a tool, not a goal. It is about a shift to a low carbon society.

Which strategies are applied?

  • Reduce total amount of materials: Dematerialisation is one of our main design tools, as well as lightness. Sharing and pooling of assets is often forgotten, but very important.
  • Reduce amount of virgin inputs: We aim to use of non-virgin or biobased, components, elements and materials. Building with reclaimed material CAN be an issue of a circular building; the way it is treated, is one of our ecodesign challenges
  • Extend the useful life: Design for as little maintenance as possible as well as hyperflexibility and polyfunctionality. Using beauty as a strategy for a long life.
  • Maximise the reusable of a product or component: Designing buildings or products in a hyperflexible way, is the alpha and omega of a circular approach, giving these buildings and products a chance for a second and third life. Design for disassembly promotes reuse of components.

What are the benefits for buyers?

Our clients are building contractors, real estate developers, manufacturers, architectural offices, government,… We are not affiliated to any of them, but operate in a totally independent way. Being in contact with all of these players, and building bridges between them, is one of our strengths. Making designs and construction methods in a circular way, has become a criterium in competitions. We give teams a competitive advantage by finding circular opportunities in their projects.
