Utexbel

Offer

Fabrics for hospital and work wear partly made from shredded fibers recovered from used medical garments. The fabrics are available in PES/COT and COT/PES blends in various weights (200 - 300 g/m2).

Why is our product circular?

25% of the used material comes from old garments, washed more than 100 times, 25% of the fibers are industrial waste. The remaining part of the blend is a mixture of organic cotton and R-PET fibers coming from recycled PET-bottles.

Which circular strategies do we apply?

  • Reduce amount of virgin inputs: Utexbel aims to reuse a maximal amount of material by recovering the fibrous material from the shredding process.
  • Extend the useful life: With a blend of virgin fibers, in order to achieve an acceptable lifetime of the circular product, new yarn and fabric is made.
  • Maximise the reusability or recyclability of materials: Utexbel manages the whole process from old garment to new circular fabric.

What are the benefits for buyers?

Collected old garments are sorted, their hard parts removed and the remaining textile material is shredded to fibers. Those fibers are, after blending with industrial fiber waste and virgin fibers, fed to the spinning process to make a new yarn. Of this yarn, a fabric is woven and dyed, which is reusable for assembling new garments with an expected lifetime of up to 100 washes. All production is done in Belgium.
